Obtain a Driving Licence (Motor Cycle & Motor Tricycle)

  • You have to be at least 18 years old.
  • You are physically fit to drive.
  • If you have any physical disabilities, you may have to attend the driving ability assessment before applying for a driving test.

  • You should pass the written test (Part A Test) on the Road Users' Code before taking the competence test (Part B Test).

  • You have to enroll with a designated driving school for a mandatory training course for acquiring the basic knowledge and skills to manoeuvre a motor cycle before you can take the competence test. If you have applied for motor cycle driving tests on or before 1 January 1990, you can obtain approval from the Transport Department for exemption of the competence test.

  • After passing the competence test, you can make a road test (Part C Test) appointment either by yourself or through a designated driving school.

  • If you want to apply for a learner’s driving licence, you have to complete the application form TD555.
  • You are required to apply for a learner’s driving licence for motor cycle within 2 years after passing the competence test.
  • Learner’s driving licence is valid for 12 months from the date of issue. You may consider applying for the learner’s driving licence right before your driving training.

  • You are eligible to apply for a probationary driving licence within 3 years from the date of passing the driving tests.
  • You have to complete a mandatory 12-month probationary driving period before you can apply for a full driving licence.
  • You are required to apply for a full driving licence within 3 years from the date of your completion of the probationary driving licence period.
